Retire an Application

On CM01, log on as VIAMONSTRA\Administrator and open the ConfigMgr console.

Navigate to the Software Library workspace, and in the Optional User folder, select the 7-ZIP application.

Right-click 7-ZIP and select Retire. To make the application “active” again, right-click the application and select Reinstate.

Deleting the application removes it from the ConfigMgr console and also deletes all entries of the application from the database. After it is deleted, there is no way to get the application back, except by recreating it manually or restoring a backup. A restore in ViaMonstra will never be started just to restore a single object from the database. Before you delete an application, you need to ensure that all deployments are deleted.

Real World Note: Retiring applications also prevents ConfigMgr clients from downloading and evaluating policies related to the application. This is particularly something to consider if you have many versions of the same application. Retire the older version instead of leaving it active in the ConfigMgr console.
